Frequently Asked Questions

Please phone or email us as soon as possible.

If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice, then we may charge you the full consultation fee. We are a busy medical practice, and many people are waiting to see us for urgent problems, thus cancelled appointments at short notice are unfair to other patients.

Yes, it does matter! We generally prefer radiology providers who offer Inteleviewer remote access to our physicians. If you have your scans done at a provider which does not offer this access, then we may ask you to source a CD or USB for a digital copy of your imaging. This may slow the assessment, or cause you inconvenience.

Some local examples of radiology providers that offer Inteleviewer access include:

  • North Shore Radiology
  • PRP Imaging
  • Castlereagh Imaging
  • Mater / Alfred / IMED Imaging
  • Lumus / Northern Beaches Imaging
  • QScan Imaging
  • Macquarie Medical Imaging
  • Eastwood / Shire Medical Imaging
  • St Vincents Clinic Medical Imaging
  • Harbour Radiology
  • Hunter Imaging
  • Southeast Radiology
  • Vision X-ray
  • Synergy Imaging
  • Spectrum Imaging
  • OurMedical Imaging
  • Advicon Imaging WiSE Imaging

This list is not comprehensive. We do not use other web-based radiology browser systems. Please ask your radiology provider if they use Inteleviewer if unsure.

This can be ordered through your GP, or after consultation with one of our sleep physicians.

Pre-bronchodilator spirometry, when tested in association with lung volumes, DLCO or forced oscillometry is bulk-billed (no out-of-pocket charge).

Spirometry alone, or bronchoprovocation testing will attract additional charges (please ask reception).

No, we are not a bulk-billing practice.

No, unfortunately we are unable to offer concessional billing.

The only exception is DVA Gold Card holders, who will not have any out-of-pocket expense for consultation.

No, private health funds do not cover outpatient activity, such as medical specialist consultation, or most outpatient diagnostic testing (like scans, blood tests or lung function).

Having private health cover does not affect the cost or availability of consultation or lung function testing.

Private health cover will allow your physicians to admit you to North Shore Private Hospital if unwell, or complex diagnostic testing is required, and it may be used for endoscopic procedures.

We do not offer Telehealth consultations for the initial visit.

Formal follow-up telephone consultations are charged at $170 for a 15-minute call. This does not qualify for Medicate rebate, so will be an out-of-pocket charge.

Routine phone calls to relay results, instructions, or made at the request of your physician at the time of consultation are not charged, and not considered timed consultations.

Standard initial visit$420
Standard follow-up visit$220

Accounts are settled on the day of consultation, and we will submit the Medicare rebate for you at the time of payment. The Medicare rebate will be sent to the bank account you have nominated with Medicare.

Yes. Conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea and some chronic lung diseases can impact sleep quality. Your specialist may recommend a sleep study if overnight breathing disturbances are suspected.

Not necessarily. Lung nodules are common and often benign. Your respiratory physician will assess the size, shape, and growth of the nodule through imaging and, if necessary, recommend further investigation or monitoring.

Do you offer urgent appointments for new lung cancer or suspicious nodule assessments?

Yes, please call our receptionists.

A lung function test (also called pulmonary function testing or spirometry) measures how well your lungs are working. It assesses airflow, lung volumes, and gas exchange and helps diagnose conditions like asthma and COPD.

Respiratory specialists diagnose and manage a wide range of conditions affecting the lungs and airways, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, lung nodules or masses, and sleep-related breathing disorders.

Your specialist will take a detailed medical history, perform an examination, review your issues, and may recommend diagnostic tests such as lung function tests, imaging, or blood work. An investigative or management plan will be discussed based on this assessment.

Yes. A valid referral from your general practitioner or another specialist is required to access Medicare rebates for consultations and most diagnostic tests.

You can see a respiratory specialist without a valid Medicare referral, but you will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

If you do not bring a valid Medicare referral, then you will not be eligible for a Medicare rebate, and you will be out-of-pocket for the consultation fee.

You may benefit from seeing a respiratory specialist if you have symptoms such as persistent cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, frequent chest infections, or unexplained fatigue. Referral is typically made by your GP or specialist.
